We are the

GEA Alliance

The Cairn Project and the AWE Summit Scholarship Foundation 501(c)(3) have merged to create the Alliance for Gender Equity in Outdoor Adventure (GEA Alliance). This is our mission:

We connect women, girls, and gender-diverse adventurers with transformative adventure opportunities, advancing gender equity on and off the mountain.

Here’s how we do that:

  • The Trailblazer Program: Adventure fundraisers by women, for women (learn more)

  • The Grit Lit Program: a women’s adventure book club/subscription (learn more)

  • The See Her Outside Podcast: elevating women’s voices (learn more)

  • The Women of Mountaineering Calendar: an annual wall calendar (learn more)

  • The Summit Scholarship: >$175,000 (and counting) in women’s mountaineering scholarships (learn more)

  • The Compass Collective Scholarship for trans folks (learn more)

Although now united under the GEA Alliance, the programs previously run by The Cairn Project and The Summit Scholarship Foundation continue to operate unchanged. In addition, the GEA Alliance also serves as the parent organization for The Compass Collective, an outdoor scholarship initiative for trans individuals. The Alliance is led by Executive Director Sunny Stroeer and governed by a joint board of directors from both founding organizations.
